Below are answers to some frequently asked questions that may help you:

Q. I HAVE NO FOOD AND NO MONEY. WHAT SHOULD I DO TO GET HELP FROM THE FOODBANK?

A. You need to be referred to us by one of the agencies. (For details follow link here Referral Agencies).  They will assess you as to whether or not you are eligible for help from the Foodbank. If you are eligible they will give you a referral form or an individual code to take to the Foodbank.

Q. I HAVE NO CONTACT WITH ANY OF THE AGENCIES LISTED. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

A. You should contact either:

Central Access Point (to the rear of the YMCA on Shaddongate). Telephone number 01228 221548

or:

Local Welfare Assistance by telephone only. Telephone number 01228 221100. If they think you are eligible they will give you a referral form or an individual code to take to the Foodbank.

Q. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE BEEN REFERRED?

A. You should go to the Foodbank: The Courts Nisi Prius Building,
English Street  Carlisle CA3 8LZ  on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday Open from 1.00pm to 3.00pm (the foodbank is not open on Bank Holidays)

Q. WHAT WILL I GET?

A. You will be given a parcel of food appropriate to your needs. This will contain, so far as we have the supplies, enough food for three days. You can receive up to three parcels throughout your crisis but you will need to be referred to the Foodbank for each visit you make.

Q. BECAUSE OF MEDICAL REASONS I HAVE SPECIAL DIETARY REQUIREMENTS. WILL I BE ABLE TO GET APPROPRIATE FOOD?

A. So far as we can we will try and give you appropriate food for you. All our food is donated so we cannot guarantee that we will be able to give you exactly what you require but we will do our best.

Q. I HAVE RECEIVED THREE PARCELS BUT I AM STILL IN CRISIS. WHAT HAPPENS THEN?

A. Unfortunately the Foodbank cannot help on a long-term basis. We do not have enough food. It is a matter for your referral agency to make long-term provisions for you.

Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF I AM UNABLE TO VISIT THE FOODBANK

A. Your support worker will be able to telephone us to make convenient arrangements.
